Traditional and Online Advertising

98 Without a common means of communication, advertising clogged the lines, letting large multinationals virtually have their way in each country without much trouble. All one had to do then was hold the biggest loudspeaker, so to speak, in order to be heard.

Not so today. Today, the Internet is the loudspeaker, the common means of communication, and trying to hold on to it often leads to disaster. Look at the movement against the Stop Online Piracy Act – the SOPA was trying to get a hold of the Internet, and in so many words, the Internet rebelled against it, in some form of online civil disobedience. There can be no control over the Internet, the advertising and the Internet user.

What an SEO service does is just to make your voice heard just a little bit more effectively than others. SEO services try to make your voice just a little bit more interesting – some do it by spinning articles, black hat SEO tactics and the like, but search engines often penalize dirty tricks by lowering their page rank – the complete opposite of any objective to make your voice heard. It is advertising on the web, but with less control over the loudspeaker. And it definitely costs less than traditional advertising.
